Samuel Noel Postlethwait Award - Teaching


The Samuel L. Postlethwait Award 
is for excellence in teaching in one’s institution and/or for recognition of service and contributions to botanical education, which may include service to the BSA Teaching Section.

Criteria:
The Postlethwait Award is to a Teaching Section member under the following criteria:

  1. Facilitation of student learning and appreciation of botany.
  2. Demonstrates innovation in the teaching of botany.
  3. Demonstrates enthusiasm for student success in the acquisition of botanical knowledge.
  4. Dedication to plant science education.


This award is now open for 2024.

All nominated awardees must adhere to the BSA Guidelines for Professional Ethics and the Ethical Guidelines for Nominated Awards.

Also, all nominators and any other letter writers will need to fill out the Professional Conduct Disclosure Form. The disclosure document(s) should be emailed to the Teaching Section chair, Ben Montgomery - montgo55@uscupstate.edu - with the subject line: Postlethwait Award nomination.


Timeline:

  • Call for Nominations: March 1st
  • Nomination Deadline: April 1st
  • Nomination Reviews and Decision: April 30th The nominations will be reviewed and the awardee determined by the current executive council of the BSA Teaching Section, as well as the previous year’s awardee.
  • Announcement and Award: During the BOTANY 2024 meetings. Awardee receives a plaque and announcement at broader awards ceremony, as well as in section meetings.
